Extended modalities is a series of monochromatic layered, silhouetted drawings which is an exploration of structures that are never quite finished. Always assembling, always dissolving. The series is driven by the fascination with the minimal composition of monolithic structures aided with chromatic transparent layers and lines at first. Over time it started to connect with the broader key themes of my practice about memory, place and identity. The work does not seek to tell a story but to invoke a sense of an atmosphere, unknown place much like a memory. These compositions are mostly informed from growing up in Lahore’s layered histories and Finland’s distilled landscapes, but they are not about a place, they are about the act of building itself. These are not static structures, but attempts. Each layer is striving towards form, each line a gesture of assembly. A fascinating negotiation between two worlds.
